SERVING OUR BROTHER
The communities of the “Casa del Giovane” (Youth Home) aim to be a prophetic sign, in an attempt to interpret the signs of the times and the events of our troubled history, in the light of God. Not through violent protest or delegation, but through personal they are implementing this committment, which means service and sharing as well as brotherly relationships, highlighting the prevention and promotion of the man as a whole. The communities were born in a poor and precarious basement. Since 1968, they have been gradually coming out of this anonymous and undercover situation.
Our communities welcome youngsters who are in difficulties; the victims of a corruption that sometimes seems to be so unrestrainable. They follow the path of rehabilitation and growth through therapeutical and socialising activities. They are the true protagonists of this act of faith in men and in the Gospel. Countless difficulties and deprivation are the premises for a meaningful potential and strong drive to love. Work, study, cheerfulness, culture, dialogue, time for learning and meditating on the Gospel, for inwardness through a strong but also responsible and brotherly relationship are part of the most significant moments of our community life.
Special attention is given to children and minors at risk, who are the victims of awesome environments of moral and social degradation. They are introduced into special community groups, in a comfortable environment where an adequate education programme is carried out with the assistance of social workers in a framework of COMMUNITY CARE.
The “Casa del Giovane” also welcomes girls wanting to return to their own existential values as well as youngsters with mental disorders.
Since it is a christian community, youngsters of different creed and cultures who want to start moving on a path of liberation are welcomed with respect and caring sensitivity.
Since 1968, our community has welcomed its homeless brothers and, in the last few years, also immigrants. This is a hard task, demanding great love, a deep spiritual life and faith, together with serious motivations to give unconditionally, and adequate training, not only for those youngsters who have chosen to dedicate every day of their lives to full time service as equals, in the name of the Gospel, but also for the volunteers and all those who help.
The communities are also involved in different initiatives aimed at promoting a culture of life, justice and solidarity in order to eradicate the insiduous and perverse causes of alienation and lust for power, this highlighting the primacy and centrality of all God’s sons.

The new quality of life is essentially the love of justice, because only this can strike a blow and an accusation to the inequalities between the rich and the poor, between the developed countries and the Third World. The only balance existing seems to be the macabre one of fear and of mutual threats of destruction.
“Casa del Giovane” wants to be the bearer of humane and christian values, from solidarity to a total gift of life, ranging from the choice of offering service to the sharing with the poor and the outcast, from great love for the man to a continuous search for charity and Father God.
“Casa del Giovane” offers real stories, experiences, divined humanity, justice in the light of charity, materials with the soul of love. But all this is experienced as a free choice to give and receive. Thus can it affirm that man in itself is a value which must be discovered, learned, loved through service. Man is important, not because his place in the world is prestigious, but because he exists in himself and has an invaluable potential to achieve.
The illiterate, the child yet unborn, the old man who is not self-sufficient, the physical and mental disabled, the discharged from a mental hospital, the immigrant from the Third World, they all have the same dignity as the manager, the brave, because they are men, because they are living in the life of God, offered as a gift to the human kind.
Each human being is a "gift". This is a reason for the “Casa del Giovane” to move unconditionally, being aware that the time and professional skills it spends will not produce any profit in return.
Those who are able to get free of themselves, of their own idols and of their insecurities, will be able to set their brother free and to grow with a new humanity.
True professionalism in christian life means "growing together" with "the other one", to prevent society from marginalizing number of poor, and outcasts, and end up "putting" these brothers of ours in a position of subordination and assistence-addiction and therefore condemned to desperation.
“Casa del Giovane”, with the youngsters and the volunteers, attempts to accomplish this act of peaceful rebellion with a strong commitment at all levels because Jesus "has come to serve and not to be served". This is our war against injustice, pessimism, capitalistic materialism, miserable resignation, for CIVILISATION OF LOVE.
